One way we use water more efficiently is to use it more than once by “polishing” wastewater and industrial effluent and using it to irrigate large turf areas such as parks and golf courses.
“It doesn’t make sense to use high-quality drinking water on public landscapes,” said Trudy Jones, chairperson of the Water Authority Board. “We want to save our aquifer and our purified San Juan-Chama water for drinking, and follow the lead of other U.S. communities in watering our parks and golf courses with treated, non-potable water.”
The Water Authority is using reclaimed industrial water to irrigate turf areas in the Northeast Heights, including, but not limited to, the Balloon Fiesta Park and Arroyo del Oso Golf Course and park.
