STEP 9 – Outfall
The Cleaned Wastewater Flows into the Rio Grande
About 50 – 54 million gallons of water a day flows into the Rio Grande from the Wastewater Treatment Plant. That makes this stream of cleaned wastewater the fifth largest tributary of the Rio Grande.
Where did all this water come from initially? About half of the water that we use in our homes, businesses and offices consists was pumped from the aquifer. The other half was is San Juan – Chama river water that we pumped from the river and cleaned. All of this water was drinking water quality when it was pumped to homes and businesses.
We can all do our part to preserve our precious water resources by conserving water every day.
